Colleen Netzell, CPA joined more than 70 business advisers on Feb. 5 for CPA Day at the Capitol, hosted by the Minnesota Society of Certified Public Accountants (MNCPA).

CPA Day at the Capitol is an opportunity for MNCPA members to carry a unified message to legislative leaders and elected officials. At this year’s event, federal tax conformity and related tax issues were at the top of the priority list.  Colleen’s discussions with her representatives emphasized the need for Minnesota tax laws relating to businesses to conform to the current federal law.

“CPAs provide valuable insight on tax issues and other complex topics that have a big impact on Minnesotans,” said Geno Fragnito, MNCPA government relations director. “It’s important for CPAs to speak up — lawmakers are listening.”

In addition to meeting with elected officials, Colleen and other attendees heard from legislative and administrative leaders, including Commissioner Cynthia Bauerly from the Minnesota Department of Revenue; Speaker of the House Melissa Hortman; Senate Deputy Majority Leader Michelle Benson; House Tax Committee Chair Paul Marquart; and Sharon Jensen, CPA, vice chair of the Minnesota Board of Accountancy.
